Hey! I've seen you a couple times on Aardvark (I went to school with Apurva!) and I thought I'd check out your blog.

I am starting a Startup myself, have been working on it for the last year, so I'm definitely on the "Motivation Is Important" page too. I feel like I have a lot more questions about it than answers. But I'll check out the TAL episode...

FWIW, here's my delicious inspiration tag: http://delicious.com/erikp/inspiration

Timo: Thanks for your comment! Here are some things to note:

1) Make sure the ' are actually single quotes. I've noticed some instances were they have morphed into ` or special apostrophes.
2) You may also want to make sure there are no spaces between the equal (=) sign. I think that can cause issues as well (but not positive)

If you're still having problems, feel free to contact me directly. I actually just made these aliases on Snow Leopard just this past week and they worked okay for me.

Good luck!

Hey Chris,
i just moved from linux to my first Mac System and tried some usual linux scripting stuff.
First of all, I need some aliases like ll -> ls -la ......

If found so many "documentations" about it and guess what: None does work for my os x 10.6 :-(
unfortunatly.

i just tried your one.
vi ~/.bash_profile
none of your alias suggestions work. What is the difference? What system do you use?
Propably a syntax failure. the alias-man-page didnt help that much.

Would like to hear from you,
take care

Melvin: Thanks for writing such a great post on your blog about the topic!

This post was more to proliferate the answer to the question of getting HAML and Javascript working together. Since it took me longer than I wanted it to, I figured others may have the same problem.

Hey Chris,

What did you search on Google for? I just did a search for "haml and javascript" as well as "haml javascript" and they both showed the two blog posts you mentioned.

PS: Thanks for the mention.

A few notes -
1. TerminalColors actually doesn't work, but Ciaran Walsh's TerminalColours does. Reasons why are on the developer's blog. Which you may want to check anyway as there are some Snow Leopard fixes, and he's updated it a few times this month (September 2009.)

2. If you actually TRY to install TerminalColors, it will install OVER the new SIMBL install. It's easy to recover, just re-install SIMBL.

3. If anyone needs to remember the fix to get the pageup/pagedown keys to work properly in screen, it's:
down:
escape [ 6 ~
up:
escape [ 5 ~

(Yes, down is 6, up is 5. I always have to check this in screen. If you're like me and use the copy buffer in screen a lot ( control-a [, control-a ] )

4. This is the only other publicly available term color setup I've found:
